About Literacy Tutors

Girl with Teacher

What is a literacy tutor?

Literacy tutors come from a variety of backgrounds. At Shoreline, our tutors have either completed or are completing their Bachelor degree in a related field such as linguistics and psychology. This provides them with foundational knowledge in areas such as language processing, speech and language acquisition, language and literacy, and/or written language systems. They then receive specific on-the-job training by our speech-language pathologists so that they can provide tutoring that aligns with Shoreline's approach to literacy support.

Our tutors may work independently with a student (with support from the SLP as needed) or work in collaboration with the SLP to extend practice opportunities with a skilled partner (e.g., alternate sessions between the SLP and tutor who continues practice).
