About Math Tutoring
Math tutoring is available for students in grades primary to eight or whose support needs are at that level. Our math program takes a two-pronged approach: a focus on computational fluency and an explicit, scaffolded approach to math instruction through JUMPMath.
Computational fluency refers to having accurate and efficient methods for solving computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems). Students exhibit computational fluency when they demonstrate flexibility in the methods they choose, can understand and explain these methods, and produce accurate answers efficiently.
Students demonstrate accuracy by getting the correct answer to a question. Students demonstrate flexibility when they are able to adapt and apply strategies to new question types. Students demonstrate efficiency when they are able to complete computations in a reasonable amount of time.
JUMPMath focuses on explicitly teaching grade-level math concepts by breaking them up into small, manageable steps. The program focuses on building students’ math confidence and understanding of math concepts.
Math tutoring is available at our Dartmouth office and by telepractice.
